Thousand Oaks, CA is located in southeastern Ventura County in California. According to the 2010 census, the population was 126,683, making it the second largest city in Ventura County by population, following Oxnard, CA. Thousand Oaks experiences a mild Mediterranean Climate or Dry-Summer Subtropical climate year round. This includes warm, sunny, and dry summers, with cool and rainy winters.
Thousand Oaks was used as a route for stagecoaches in the late 19th century as they traveled between Santa Barbara and Los Angeles. The Stagecoach Inn was built on this route in 1876, and it now stands as a popular museum and California Historical Landmark. Jungleland USA, one of Southern California's first theme parks, was also found in Thousand Oaks. Visitors watched wild animal shows there in the 1940s and 1950s until it closed down in 1968, due to competition from other popular parks.
A variety of attractions are found in Thousand Oaks. Nature enthusiasts may enjoy touring the Gardens of the World or the Conejo Valley Botanic Garden. Art lovers may enjoy the Conejo Valley Art Museum, and other popular attractions include the Wildwood Regional Park and the Chumash Indian Museum.
